Easy + Fun Spring Articulation Activities (Free I Spy Games)

Spring is starting to peek out — depending on where you live, that might mean sunshine and flowers, or it might still be rainy, muddy, and cold. For me in Oregon, it is a little bit of both! Either way, those little signs of spring are showing up, and I always get excited to bring that fresh, seasonal energy into speech therapy. This post is packed with some of my tried and true Spring Articulation Activities! From one SLP to another – I know these will keep your spring sessions fun and engaging while also hitting goals and keeping your kids smiling!

Articulation is one of those areas where we’re constantly looking for something new — something that keeps kids engaged without feeling like the same old drill-and-repeat. That’s exactly why I created this Spring Articulation I Spy game.

It’s bright, fun, and uses real-life photos to make practice feel more meaningful. You can use it digitally on an iPad or computer (click and check items off!), or print it out for an easy grab-and-go activity. You can download it for free below!

A Fresh Way to Practice Articulation This Spring

I Spy activities are some of my go-to articulation tools because they:

  • encourage lots of natural repetitions
  • feel like a game (not work)
  • work well for mixed groups and different skill levels

This bug and spring-themed version targets /G/ and /Z/ sounds in mixed word positions and pairs perfectly with all the other spring activities you might already be using.

Pair Articulation with Spring Book Companions

Books are such an easy way to build engagement — and when articulation is woven into a story, kids barely realize how much practice they’re getting.

If you’re working on spring themes, these free book companions are great options to pair with articulation goals:

  • When Spring Comes includes articulation practice alongside language goals! This is an engaging and hands on way to target multiple speech goals.
  • Up in the Garden, Down in the Dirt – perfect for nature-based articulation, vocabulary work and common language goals such as context clues and WH-Questions.

These work beautifully before or after the I Spy game for carryover.

Bring Articulation to Life with Spring Crafts

Hands-on activities are magic for articulation sessions — especially in the spring when kids are ready to move and create.

Some of my favorite spring articulation crafts include:

  • 🌈 Spring Rainbow Craft with built-in articulation practice (+ language too!) This will target SO many goals on your caseload and is an easy print and go activity.
  • 🌱 Spring Sensory Bin Crafts featuring articulation seeds and flowers. Students will plant articulation seeds and then pick articulation bouquets! This activity is engaging and so fun!

These are great for slowing things down, increasing repetitions, and adding a tactile element to your sessions.

A Spring Favorite: Hungry Caterpillar Articulation

You can’t talk spring without mentioning The Very Hungry Caterpillar. This craft-based articulation activity is always a hit and makes it easy to target sounds while sequencing, crafting, and retelling the story.

It’s a perfect way to extend articulation practice beyond worksheets and into something kids truly enjoy. This activity is all fun with magna-tiles, coloring and crafting!

Keep Articulation Fresh (Without Reinventing the Wheel)

Spring is the perfect time to rotate in:

  • seasonal visuals
  • hands-on activities
  • real-life photos
  • simple games that don’t require tons of prep

This Spring Articulation I Spy was created to fit right into that rhythm — easy to use, flexible, and fun for both you and your students.

Other Fun Articulation Activities to Try This Spring

If articulation ever starts to feel stale, you’re not alone. This is one area of speech therapy articulation where many SLPs find themselves constantly rotating activities to keep students motivated.

Along with I Spy games, here are a few easy ways to keep articulation activities feeling fresh this bright and beautiful season:

  • Seasonal movement games
Hide articulation cards around the room or outdoors and have students search, say the word, and move on. Movement + articulation practice is a win.
    • This Spring Movement Activity by Project Play Therapy is free and easy to use movement list that can be used as a sensory break, an obstacle course, or a following directions activity!
  • Articulation games with real-life pictures
Using photos instead of clipart helps students connect sounds to the real world and keeps articulation practice more engaging. Speech Therapy Store has spent years building out an articulation library, so we have you covered here!
  • Craft-based articulation activities
Crafts naturally slow sessions down, which is perfect for increasing repetitions while keeping things fun.
  • Quick articulation games for warm-ups or carryover
Short, low-prep articulation games are ideal for mixed groups, quick sessions, or those last five minutes. See the fun Articulation ISPY we made for you!

Rotating through different spring articulation activities can make a big difference in student engagement — without requiring you to reinvent your therapy plans every week.
