Spring Book Companion For Your Speech Therapy Sessions

Speech-language pathologists, teachers and parents are always looking for fresh ideas on how to incorporate articulation and language skills into lesson plans.

In my speech room, I have seen time and time again how much a great book can be one of those perfect resources to your articulation and language therapy sessions that take it from just a good speech therapy session to an absolutely fun, engaging, and effective speech therapy session!

So – from one speech therapist to another – speech therapy book companions are one of my best tips! During this beautiful month of May, I am bringing you a spring book companion to go with such a sweet story – Up in the Garden, Down in the Dirt by Kate Messner.

Up in the Garden, Down in the Dirt by Kate Messner is a beautifully illustrated picture book that explores the world of a garden through the changing seasons. Told from the perspective of a young girl and her grandmother, the story shows the transformation of a garden as plants grow and life flourishes above and below the soil.

This is one of my favorite books! There are so many literacy-based activities that are inspired from this story. Since this is one of my favorite spring books, I have created a whole spring themed lesson plan and book companion for you!

There are multiple spring themed target words and I know so many of our kiddos have language goals, so I made sure to incorporate that in this book companion.

I made sure to focus on both spring themed vocabulary and learning vocabulary through context clues! Before you read or listen to the story, complete the pre-reading activities!
