Modified Mental Health and Suicide Prevention

Teaching special education students in high school grades 9-12 in order to increase knowledge of depression and suicide prevention.

The curriculum is a modified version of how to increase knowledge of suicide prevention resources and to encourage help-seeking behaviors.

By educating our students about seeking help we can empower them to get help for themselves or others.

Our school district implemented a wellness plan for grades 9-12 to focus on mind, body, and relationships health. However, the lesson plan was much to difficult for my special education students. So I created a modified version for my high school special education students.

Start by discussing wellness and wellness when it has to do with mind, body, and relationships.

    Start by discussing stress, then identify the warning signs when someone needs help, then watch the video on suicide awareness and review the five people you feel like you can talk to.
